Art in the Making

I have been working on an “Altars” series. I now have a show lined up in January of 2026, so I will be building these up as inventory for the show.
I’m interested in exploring the idea of worship / honor / reverence and how as humans we create spaces for beings beyond us. Whether our altar is for ancestors, activists, angels, our memories, nature .. we create saturated pockets of holiness and deem them good. (pc Chris Primeaux)
I do love the light in this farm house. At any part of day, the wood gives off a glowing yellow. I liked the way the dots on these altars were interacting with the dots (marbles) on the table.
I began this banner during my mental breakdown of sorts. Still not sure what to call it, but the beginning of this year was a couple months of almost total desperation, trying to stay alive, and very little motivation to make any art. I needed a break from making some large scale pieces, but one day received this banner as a vision and couldn’t shake it.
I began by cutting the panels and hand sewing them together. Once photographing, I realize the light pink panel is hard to see, so I’ll be obsessing over which color to do instead. Thanks to my roomie and friend Jacob for the picture and for standing on the ladder when I was afraid to.
My painting “Nine Realms” was in the community show at The Havner’s. It was a joy to see it hanging amidst so many other pieces in the gallery.

Jacob and I are committed to at least one day a week to doing our collaborative glass work. We are restoring a broken piece, the middle is some of my combinations of the dots and glass, and a new room divider. Keep an eye out for some updates on that front - some things are slowly in the works!!
Coming Up
Next class at the Carnegie - May 31st, Flower Pot Painting for 9-12 year olds
Stay tuned for details on my solo show in January! It feels like a long way away, but with the ideas I’ve been having, I have a lot to do before then :)
Muses
I saw one of my sisters graduate college which meant a trip to California! I bought some saffron from a Mediterranean store, saw dolphins and seals, and enjoyed time with family.

I have been taking the Color! Now! class with Kristin Texeira and let me tell you - it has encouraged me in gifts I think I already knew were in me, but are rarely encouraged by the outside world. For example, taking ten minutes a day to STARE at something blue, and then write about it. The way our world is structured doesn’t always allow me to pay attention the way I want to.
Not only has she taught us wonderful things about the color blue for almost a month now, but the discussion and community in the class is fun and unexpected.
I am taking photos of blue, collecting blue, writing about it, thinking about it, listening to podcasts on it, and forming a playlist. It’s a wonderful gift to us… color.

Not only has the humidity got me grumpy lately, but as part of my “blue” homework, I made a viewfinder and my partner and I went to the nearest lake to study blue, swim in blue, and hang out with some birds.

Minnie Evans!!! I’ve been looking at a lot of her work lately.
